For as much as I try to stay on top of things, I'm surprised to know that I am behind the times regarding how many spaces to put after a period at the end of a sentence. Apparently people are putting only one space after a sentence. I've been a two space girl all my life and this transition is going to be tough. How long has the one space thing been going on?
You may say "So what... no one notices!" but it does make a difference. I tried to use an example to show how it looks but when I hit "Publish Post" it changes all two space sentences to one spacers. At least Blogger is looking out for me.

I totally agree. I remember learning in keyboarding class(10 years ago) that two spaces went after periods. Now I have an anxiety attack every time I need to touch that damn spacebar.
Why can't they just leave a good thing alone!
Oh come on, where have you BEEN?
i will always be a two-spacer, except for when twittering (Space constraints). sometimes the old-school is the cool school. sometimes.
Tina&Jay- Thank you for your insights. Brooks- shut your face (jk).
I've always taken such pride in finishing a sentence with one space and then hitting that space bar one more time, a bit harder, as if to proclaim "Yes! I finished this sentence!" And no matter what, no one can take that away from me.
I was a two spacer until I took an updated college keyboarding class. Apparently, it is no longer correct. I think it has something to do with the use of paper and too many spaces after periods eating up space. Not kidding.
Tipp- Actually when I researched this I found out it was because when typewriters were used, all the letters were the same height/width. So it was difficult to discern where one sentence started and the other ended. However, with word processing came the ability for typefaces to show the differences between letters and the two space rule became null and void.
