First there was The Montauk Monster, whose very image scared the bejeezies out of me.
Neither one of these has been officially confirmed as a hoax, although not for lack of trying. The Montauk Monster was first featured on Gawker, and then picked up by reputable outlets such as New York Magazine and CNN. Theories have been flying about both 'monsters'. I've heard reports saying the Montauk Monster is a dead pig, Satan's bacon, a dead raccoon, a shaved dog, a result of the nearby Plum Island animal testing facility, a turtle without its shell, even a wild pig/rat from South America. A film about carnies titled "Splinterheads" may answer the question “What is the Montauk Monster?” But if this is a viral marketing campaign it should only serve as an attention getter, then answer any questions and point those interested to the real product or news. This film won't be released until 2009 and I don't want to wait that long so I hope we get some other reports soon. Sheesh!
Right now, many are refuting The Georgia Bigfoot, saying it's just an old movie costume. This guy even does the research. I guess we'll find out at Friday's press conference in San Francisco.
Another weird report: some Texas police officers captured video of a Chupacabra lookalike. I'm just going to let that one go though...
