Anyways, DC is awesome. Are you wearing your work shoes on the metro? You should totally wear a pair of comfy sneaks or other comfy shoes and carry your work shoes in a bag. There is a LOT of walking involved living in DC..but I would go back if hubby's job was there..unfortunately, it isn't.
