Best Toast Ever.

Here's to the bull that roams the woods
does the cows and the heifers good.
If it wasn't for the bull and his long rod
there'd be no beef and butter, by God.

Help Save The Earth In Just One Hour

The ice caps in Antarctica are breaking, melting and disappearing. 2007 was the tenth warmest year on record. The EPA has even created an initiative to combat global warming.

What can each of us do now that will make a difference for our world and generations to come?

On Saturday, March 29, 2008 (that’s tomorrow) turn off your lights at 8:00 p.m. (your local time) and keep them off for an entire hour. This is Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund. Visit the site and pledge to turn off your lights to receive Earth Hour updates and tips. So far 263,064 people have signed up for Earth Hour 2008.

Last year's Earth Hour, which happened only in Sydney, Australia, had the effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an hour. This year's event is global, so savings will be even bigger. Landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Sears Tower and the Sydney Opera House will dim during Earth Hour.

Get together with friends and make a night of it. If 10,000 households turn off 10 lights tomorrow night for just one hour, we'll avert the CO2 created by an average apartment in a whole year.

If you’re like me, you’re wondering what you’ll be doing for an hour in the dark. Here are some suggestions:

  • It’ll be 48 degrees in Virginia Beach tomorrow night at 8:00 with a slight overcast. Get a beverage, a blanket and enjoy the evening on a deck or porch.
  • Dig out your candles and light a few a few of them. Have a romantic dinner or read a book the old fashioned way.
  • Go to the movies.
  • Get a bunch of friends together and play board games by candlelight.
  • Power up your iPod and have a dance party.
  • Or, just take a nap.

Listen... To Children

The Red Cross (in Norway) issued this 'hearing test'.

It's really well done and effective. I'm guessing they're trying to make this a viral site.

I hope it's working...

Welcome Back.

This has been a pretty great Lent. And tomorrow I get to dive into the world of celebrity gossip again. I survived without it! Some would say "See, you don't need it, so don't go back." But honestly, reading blogs (ph.com, supaficial, pinkblog) and trash magazines (People, US and the Enquirer. Yes it's true) is a nice little escape. Some may call it a "Classic form of escapism." I call it my "how to" training for when I make it big.

PS I love Jesus.

Homemade Beer

My present to Bobby on his birthday was a Mr. Beer Deluxe Brewing Kit. With Mr. Beer you get the pleasure of brewing your very own ale. However, much like a first time chef, the first batch didn't turn out very well. We just tried it. Here are our thoughts:

  1. It wasn't that I made it poorly. I didn't mess up on ingredients I messed up on process. The makeshiftness brewing thing- I think that was it. (Note: his Mr. Beer keg cracked and he used a two gallon water dispenser with a balloon on top to let the beer ferment. This was his friend, Meat Pie's, idea.) -Bobby
  2. It's like prison hooch. -Bobby
  3. Why did you make me do that?!??! - Meggie Poo, after taking a sip
  4. It's would have had a nice molassessy flavor, if not for the spoilage. It's like "almost there" beer. -Bobby
  5. I feel like Edison with the light bulb, except, ya know, I didn't invent the light bulb, I'm just making beer in my house. -Bobby

(Note: Yes, that is Jamie Lynn Spears)

Social Networking Sleuth

I broke this story to my officemate sitting in the drive through line for Chick-fil-A a whole 12 hours before CNN reported it. How? I'm a Facebook and MySpace nerd.

Leprechaun Hunting

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA: MARCH 17, 2008

As the head planner of the group, it's my job to figure out what we'll be doing on our trip. We figured out late in the game that, due to Holy Week, our Beloved Holiday is being celebrated in the city with the 2nd Largest St. Patty's Day Celebration two days prior to when we are arriving.

I'm still in the early stages of calling and finding nice pubs, things to do around town, etc. but I have a feeling it's going to be fanfreakintastic.

Stuff On My Sister's Cat

A conversation with coworkers this week lead me to re-think the cold shoulder I had turned towards the Stuff On My Cat dude for not posting the adorable pictures of my kitties. I don't care if submitting over 10 pictures of my cats qualifies me as a "cat lady"... those shots were priceless! But this morning I have broken my submission silence and e-mailed the following picture to see if they'll use it on the site.

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Charley, the Rooster Cat:

My sister Sarah is the proud parent of Charley. Charley enjoys long walks around the house, fighting with his sister Bella, and putting his belly on things. He is modeling a Rooster hat which features velcro at the bottom. You can find this fashion at PetsMart or PetSmart.
